Count Your Blessings

I have been reading the book, "The Artist's Way: Creativity as a Spiritual Practice" by Julia Cameron.  I have been smacked up side the head numerous times while reading this book as there are some really powerful messages in these pages.

Over the last several weeks I have been exploring self-limiting beliefs, self-doubt, fear, etc. and I have been reflecting on the following passage (from Week 5:  Recovering a Sense of Possibility):

"Remembering that God is my source, we are in the spiritual position of having an unlimited bank account.  Most of us never consider how powerful the creator really is.  Instead, we draw very limited amounts of the power available to us.  We decide how powerful God is for us.  We unconciously set a limit on how much God can give us or help us.  We are stingy with ourselves.  And if we recieve a gift beyond our imagination, we often send it back."

WOW!  As I have opened my eyes and my heart (my "one word" for 2013) to recieve all of what is available to me, I am blessed daily by things I used to miss (or maybe a better descritption is dismiss and take for granted?). I was oblivious to things like compliments, smiles, simple/friendly gestures, kind words, interest in me/my life/my work, etc.

I kept count yesterday and by the time I went to bed, I had counted 42.

42!!!

When was the last time you counted your blessings?

  2. A powerful passage; a powerful post! This has made me certainly stop and think a bit about not only people's positive reactions to me, but, likewise, mine to them. Thanks!!

  3. Loved reading this post! I enjoyed that book, too, and a few years out from reading it, I still carry much of it in my heart.

  4. You know, many days I go to my Middle School teaching job and grumble about the bad kids but there are really so many sweet kids there too and I really need to remember that and enjoy those blessings. Thanks for the reminder Felicia!

Are you doing the Morning Pages too? I have a couple of Cameron's books and have tried MP on a few occasions and find I don't continue them. But I have looked through the books anyway and there is a wealth of great ideas in them. I need to take myself on more Artist Dates!
